Repair-It

For my first post here.. I'm starting a thread to chronicle my latest gardening misadventure. After mixed success growing vegetables the past few years I am expanding my garden to include hops. I was looking for an ornamental grass to go along the edge of my yard when I learned that hops can grow 20 feet tall, spread every year, and you might even be able to brew beer with them someday. I guess the first year they won't be that spectacular, but it would be cool if I can establish them in my yard.

This should be a pretty interesting project that also involves clearing brush and resurrecting a 20 year old rototiller. I'll update whenever something interesting happens. For now they sit in the house waiting for the ground to thaw out.

20 foot hops?? I had no idea.

Chinook is really good, I have brewed with that before. Just be careful, I was told hops is poisonous to dogs.

Edit - I think I mixed up Chinook with something else. Sounds very familiar. Definitely used Centennial before though.

I have wanted to get into home brewing for a long time now, but don't want to devote the time space and money into *another* redneck hobby.

For those that disagree that home brewing is redneck, realize that the alternative is hipster. I'll go with redneck.

I know a lot of people that are into home brewing that I wouldn't classify it as "redneck". If anything, I'd say these days that it's more of a "hipster" thing to do (brew your own beer) as oppose to going out to the store and buying it.

They sell beer in stores?!

Home beer brewers fall into one of three groups:
1) Rednecks
2) Hipsters
3) Beer queers

Number 3 is a fate worse than death; leaving choices 1 & 2.

I'd rather have questionable family lineage and an over abundance of camouflage flannel shirts than drink PBR, drive an ancient station wagon and ride a skateboard when I'm not riding some ridiculous, over heavy, facsimile of a bicycle...

I am willing to agree that all beer with the exception of most of the American Adjunct Lager segment is good.
