245F??? Between that and the carbon issues, that just underscores that those cars are not something you'd want to own off lease. With the comments on heat soak, I have to put these in context. As the former owner of the 2007(first model year) 335i BMW, I have to say the germans had plenty of heat problem with their TTI6. Just driving up a 4 mile 1500 ft grade put my car into limp mode and it wouldn't come out for 45 mins. the BMW turbo has the highest operating oil temp(245F thermosat set point) I have ever heard of(Porsche was 190-200, BMW N20 turbo four 215F). I loved that engine but driving it hard for very long meant limp mode, and I had the sport package WITH the oil cooler. those that didn't have the oil cooler saw higher temps, up to 300F. And these german engines still have unresolved carbon buildup issues in the intake valve area and they burn oil. My understanding is audi has the same problems wih carbon buildup. So they will need the head pulled to be cleaned before 100k. I don't know that any of this had changed for the BMW I6 or the audi supercharged 6. BMW leases most of its cars so I expect they don't care. Cadillac has some heat soak... sounds much less severe than limp mode. And I would be interested in knowing the oil operating temp. Stuffing a turbo 6 in that engine compartment gave BMW serious heat management problems, I suspect that Cadillac learned something from BMW's blunders there.
