Yeah, I use protection when I mow. It's a shame these things can't be made quieter.

I was planning to sharpen the blades next on my bench grinder. And balance them, since I have that tool still. I'm not sure what it takes to drop the deck, but agree it's probably the easiest method for getting the blades off.
