Dan's Pizza

In West Greenwhich.

I went there once with Jamie and didn't get the pizza. Bill was incredulous.

So last night I did takeout and got a large swap meat and irish nachos. The irish nachos were really good. It's potato slices with cheese, bacon and corned beef. Yeah. Kinda pricey but really good.

But the pizza is really the point of this post. My standby pizza place is Pier Pizza in NK which I have been frequenting since I was living in NK. They have NY style, so large slices and pretty thin crust.

The swap meat special was really good. Website says it is "Chourico, ricotta, jalapenos, roasted onions & peppers." Spicy and very flavorful. There are two main downsides to Dan's Pizza which I don't think would vary based on the type:
1) The crust was alright but it struck me as oily and I prefer the NY style of Pier. If I could put Dan's toppings on a Pier dough, that would really be something.
2) I think the price to pizza ratio is a little higher than Pier.

Conclusion: would try again, same one, or something different. Or maybe the square one.

Maybe the dough and crust reminded me of Pizza Hut. Which I don't hate but it didn't strike me as legit but then I don't really know what that means.

Oh, I forgot another thing. Dan's seems to be fork and knife pizza which I stubbornly ate with my hands because I want to pick up my pizza. Nothing that would cause me not to order it but something to note.

I will say, we usually get the square, which is a little thinner. I agree, the toppings are what make it over the crust though.

That sounds awesome!

I also agree, it is a little pricey.

The Southwest steak pizza is awesome. Not super spicy but really good. Also the baked potatoe, Dans/Town Special, and the Big Dans (Big Mac style) are all really good. We usually get olives and pepperoni as our go to if not doing a specialty.

Burgers are pretty good, Fish and chips, wings, nachos, Ruben, and calzone are all pretty good.

If you want real style NY pizza, come to NY, :). Although, I can't guarantee that this won't happen- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znJMs86jyww. However, you can't get Khlav Kalash in RI- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NFv5IGP2uA.

I had the pulled pork nachos and Dan's Special.

Apparently I didn't read the nachos description fully because these had BBQ sauce all over them which I didn't like that much. Which leads me to another observation: They have like 3 different pizza specials with BBQ sauce. Maybe too much fascination with that...

As for the pizza I liked the crust better than last time though I didn't like the toppings as much. That swap meat was pretty good and unique. The special is...every shop has one. I think I would prefer the Town Special.

Yeah, I am not a fan of their pizzas with chicken, because I just kind of think they use too much chicken. A weird complaint but just my opinion.

I really like the Swap Meet, Southwest Steak (it has BBQ sauce and is delicious), the Loaded Baked Potato, Pepperoni and Olive is our go to for a non special.
I really like the Big Mac Pizza they have also. That is awesome.
Reuben, Fish and Chips, Burgers and Wings are really good too.

I kind of agree with the Dan's and Town specials. There is a lot on them and that is about it.

I can't say I wouldn't expect BBQ Sauce on Pulled pork though... My Dad gets the Pulled Pork BBQ sandwich all the time and likes it.

At the end of the day, if you don't like it, that is all that really matters.
