"For surviving, Mazda needs money to spend on autonomous driving technology, co-pilot, and next-gen SkyActiv-D, and hybrid systems and electrifications," said Fujiwara. "Therefore we need the money."
This is kind of sad. I get that the rotary might not be a feasible thing, but it is kind of sad that they "need" to work on Autonomous Driving, Co-pilot, hybrid etc. instead of what they want to do. It is kind of weird how all of the companies don't seem to really want to do these things, but feel that they have to because all of the others are. And if the other current mass producing car companies don't, they are afraid Tesla and maybe Apple of some other tech company will, and if they do, they will automatically steal all of the car buyers. It kind of makes you wonder what companies would focus on if they didn't feel like they had to follow the crowd.
