MS: Office on iPad

This looks pretty good, and the integration with the rest of their stuff is also good.

Many offices use Office, especially Excel and Word. International gold standard… and with so many people taking their iPads to meetings now, I can see this being pretty useful. We’ll see less people trying to lug their old giant Thinkpads into a meeting.

Word Gold Standard? More like ‘White Van Standard’. Give me Scrivener any day.

Avro, I work with people all over this stinking ball, if there is 1 type of chart I know they can all read, it’s Excel. If there is 1 type of doc I know they can read, it’s Word.

US, India, Pakistan, HK, China, Europe, you name it….. from Windows 8.x down to probably a 95 machine out there or two, not to mention a quite a few Macs, it’s Office files I receive and Office files most of us send.

THAT is why it’s the Gold Standard.

If I sent someone a “scrivener” whatever the fuck that is, that woman down in buttfuck India I work with send me back a very polite and curteous, “uh, what the fuck is this?”

Just downloaded Word, Excel and Powerpoint to mine. I haven't had much of a chance to evaluate yet, but I am hoping for good results.

As a reminder, the basic $99/yr Office 365 subscription (which gets you editing privileges on these apps) includes the following:
For 99$ you get Office to 5 PCs/Mac, 5 tablets, multiple smartphones, 20GB to OneDrive to five people.
You can also sit down at any Windows computer, log in at office.com with your MS account, and stream any or all of these full Office applications. They have a lighter version coming that'll be like $70 or so.

Office 365 has been explosively popular, and I can see why. It has higher level options that include hosted Exchange accounts (for bizness).

I have 2010 and 2013 installed on two machines via a combination of WPI and work home use program licensing deals. 2013 will probably last me a while but I could eventually see myself doing this.

This is true:
grking

You know, I find this particular type of comment intriguing. God knows how many times Apple or Android fans, or the Tech Press loudly proclaim that only First party apps are the only acceptable apps, and the pinnacle of perfection.

The ONE exception is Office Suites, where every miserable, Office wannabe is “good enough” for which people should settle.
