He kept saying it was a '350 Chevy', but it was clearly an Oldsmobile engine. Maybe the owner was stupid? In case anyone is wondering the giveaway is the oil fill tube in the front of the engine.

You think he swapped an Olds 350?

Or an olds 307 with a "Rocket 350" air cleaner. You'd have to look at the casting number to know for sure. Or take it apart. Or see how it performed.

This is about the Buick Estate, not the IROC. Other options are that car came with a 307 and he just painted stuff and added (removed?) exhaust.

Actually, Wikipedia shows both a Buick 350, and Olds 307 and the diesel 350 as optional engines for the '77-'90 Buick Estate. I can't remember what year the car was. For reference, the Buick 350 was different in that it had the distributor in front of the engine.

I just checked and the Buick is a '90 so it definitely came with a 307.

I read some of the comments on the Buick video. Some people correctly pointed out that it is an Olds engine, not a Chevy. However, other vehemently claimed those people were wrong. Sigh. Stupid internet.

I forgot about the Buick 350. I know Walt had like an 84 LeSabre B-body with a Buick 350. He spoke highly of it. I think they probably switched to the 307 around 85. Which would have been a similar time that Cadillac dumped all the nonsense engine offerings in the Brougham in favor of the 307 which was at least reliable.

But that's just one more reason the review was crappy. He could have had a whole segment about the down-selecting to corporate engines that happened in the 80s. He thinks he knows about cars because he thinks he knows what a "350" is....sigh.

Maybe what would have been even better was to compare the review vehicle with a 91 Roadmaster. That was a HUGE leap, even though the platform was the same underneath.

This needs its own thread to contain all of the bashing and complaining. Cleaned up.
