WP8.1 multitasking improvements

Pretty sophisticated. As much "optimization" as Google has done with Android recently for lower spec devices, it is nothing like what MS is doing. I will be able to update to WP8.1 on my Lumia 521! No hacking required.

So who is going to update early?

My Lumia 521, bottom end Windows Phone, can run this update. And it should run the new OS pretty well. Can we say that about Android OR iOS?

Also I just ordered a 32GB microSD card for my Lumia 521 in anticipation of being able to install apps to it. Plus this should hold my entire MP3 collection if I was so inclined. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 20-231-577

All I do with the phone these days is turn it on, play Pandora via Bluetooth to my TDK A33 speaker while playing outside with Ian, then I shut it off. But I'd like to try WP8.1 on it. It's only an 8GB phone so the extra room will be handy.

Awesome reason #37 to buy a Windows Phone (like a Lumia 520 or 521) instead of an iPod touch: offline maps.

I can download maps for the entire country and use my 521 as a GPS. I've long since finished my T-Mobile experiment but maps (and POI search) will work perfectly. This phone was $99 (the 520 is even cheaper). Why does everyone not have one??

Cortana is going to be really good. Check out this anecdote:

Get WP8.1 now: http://winsupersite.com/windows-phone/g ... n-possible

I think this is the first time I've been this excited to upgrade. I got my Titan in November, 2011 and it still works perfectly, and I was looking at a WP8 phone, but in my mind, it was mainly for new hardware. WP8, built on a complete kernel change, wasn't THAT much different from WP7.5. But WP8.1 has so much new stuff that I'm kind of itching to upgrade now. I don't know if I'll make it to the fall. I think my options, though, are an imported 930 on AT&T (not really how I want to buy a phone) or the 1520 (it's so damn huge).

If you ask me, this is the first time I felt like MS is really beginning to capitalize from Bing. Though I guess I don't mean that in the financial sense, but more the general what-they-are-doing-with-it sense.
