I drove to the transfer station mostly in 4hi just to exercise it per the owner's manual. Switched back to 2hi before pulling in. Did my stuff. As I was pulling out I switched back to 4hi and shortly after, I got this:

Scanned it and got this:

Unfortunately I don't see any PIDs to observe what sounds like a transmission sensor. I was able to switch back and forth between 2hi and 4hi after this happened so maybe it's not related to the 4wd at all. The reason I mention that is because a week ago, I drove it to work and got a blinking 4hi/4lo display. No codes though. Did some research and it could be just the switch/controller in the dash. But it hasn't happened since.

Found the PID.

Also no difference in reading plugged in or unplugged. Probably makes sense to throw a sensor at it before I chase a ghost.

Looks like it is 89413-0C020.

Discontinued by Toyota according to the site I use but: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.ph ... 34&jsn=516

Only $47 for the AISIN.

Thanks to the factory service manual I was able to find the PID ID for the input shaft speed sensor. It reads zero whether the sensor is unplugged or plugged in.
.
Access looks tight but should be pretty easy.
