AT&T QoS experience

So I'm staying at a hotel a couple blocks down from this huge stadium (National) where there was a baseball game last night (which I can see from my room). Naturally I'm in my room watching Roadkill on my phone. Side note: bringing my Bluetooth speaker was a money decision. Really helps take the edge off not having a real size screen. I almost brought my tablet and maybe I should have....but I digress.

So I am watching Roadkill and I went to dinner (which is another story, 'cause DC). When I come back I tried to keep watching and it would not play. I went so far as to restart my phone but no sale. My connection seemed to be working but it would not play the video. I gave up. This morning I tried again and it worked fine.

My conclusion is that AT&T was doing some kind of QoS/connection prioritization and when I stopped the video to eat, I fell out of queue.

Conclusion: don't stop watching videos to eat. One of my biggest complaints about hotels is the speed of wifi. In most hotels I stay in, using my Amazon Prime subscription is frustrating.

I wasn't clear enough. I was on 4G. The WiFi in this hotel isn't even free (and its like $224/night). Given the mass of people at the game down the street, I think there was a high density of traffic on the local cells. So the network did some kind of QoS (disallowing streaming video but letting other traffic through). At least I think that is what happened.

Oh boy. Blew my 2gb data cap. Got several emails and texts from AT&T but it was too lagged from the actual usage. So it automatically bought 1gb for $15. Oh well.
