Having had no luck network printing on my in-laws' Canon MP530 (fax/scanner/printer), I wanted to see if my Canon MP600 (scanner/printer) would work. It is connected via USB to my Dell desktop which runs Win 8.1. Once I shared the printer on the homegroup, my laptop saw it, and windows update installed the print driver. That last step would not work on the MP530, so I think it just didn't have a driver. My MP600 is old. I got it before I bought my house, so 2006-2007. Maybe the MP530 is a touch older. Either way I'm glad it wasn't me. As I was struggling with the MP530 at my in-laws', I was muttering to my father-in-law that this feels like the late 90s on Win 98, trying to get network printing to work...and I never did.

Except in the late 90's it wouldn't work with a new printer, let alone one that was 8+ years old.
