Other news: an Office 365 subscription moved from 1TB for each of up to 5 users to unlimited storage. So upload speeds could become relevant, though I actually don't think you could saturate your uplink on something like 1 Gbit. MS probably has QoS stuff so you don't hog all the tubes/resources. That's understandable. It costs $100/yr for the 5 user plan and $70/yr for a personal (one user) account. Which includes the unlimited Onedrive. That's...pretty compelling. If I didn't already have Office 2013 I'd be tempted. And I'm tempted just from the Onedrive storage alone. Plus I still get a benefit by being able to stream real Office products anywhere I have an internet connection, which could be useful (but the web has been fine for that stuff, and I also have a tablet with free Office 2013).

Don't you have more than one computer?

Yes. I believe each of the 5 users can install/manage installations on up to five (each) of their own computers (meaning a single MS account per user).

So I guess that's up to 25 installations per Office 365 subscription. And unlimited storage for all 5 MS accounts. That's insanity to me.

So on Cox, you get 50Mbps down and 5Mbps down for $60/mo. On FIOS, you get 25Mbps down and 25Mbps up for $60/mo. Unless you're running a server out of your house, Cox is the better choice. At least there's some competition, but I'm not particularly impressed with it. I'll stay with Cox.

Did you ever get your download speed issue addressed?

No. It's not exactly a high priority.

This will be interesting. Everyone is against the current communications monopoly/oligopoly(including myself), but... wait for the blow back from the idea of Government run communications.

Maybe I am willing to pay the extra $60 to leave it the way it is...

The Government's role is to ensure the free market is able to be as efficient as possible. Always. Any other role is inappropriate. So, if removing old laws that keep competition from working causes me to have more/cheaper internet options, then great.
