I found a leak in the Ranger's A/C. If I am lucky, it is the only leak.
This is the low pressure line going into the evaporator (actually coming out and then going into the accumulator/drier). It is possible the orifice tube is inside here. I need to look up a parts list.
I found it after putting a can and a half into it today. While running, I thought I heard a hiss. I put my hand around the fitting and I could feel it blowing refrigerant. So I guess I need to buy an O-ring or whatever. Maybe that will help it last for a season which would be fine.

Re: Ranger A/C
An O-ring kit, all seals, is $7 on Rockauto. Still not sure where the orifice tube goes.
Re: Ranger A/C
I think the orifice tube goes in the other low side line (bottom line that goes into the evaporator, not shown in my picture). I don't think I will touch that. Just doing the O-ring on the upper line should help a lot. I guess I'll order the kit for $7. The A/C works well enough when driving that I don't feel the need to replace anything else.
Re: Ranger A/C
Not even the reciever dryer?!

Re: Ranger A/C
I guess if I thought I really fixed the leak I could do that. No real point if it still leaks.
Re: Ranger A/C
You could pull a vacuum on it to figure that out... somehow....
Re: Ranger A/C
Actually I will need to do that after I replace the O-ring.
