Curious how the Teamsters respond to this...
It invites a whole conversation about the reality of the trade industry. These are the jobs seemingly most likely to either be replaced by automation (i.e. manufacturing, trucking, taxi drivers) or outsourced (i.e. manufacturing again - ouch). When we need it, we need it - but we are happy to replace people with machines or cheaper people when it is possible to do so. The transitions are usually bumpy and then society adapts - I don't have any good ideas how to make the transition softer for folks whose single skill is no longer in demand. Federal training grants? Keeping people out of the social safety nets is in everyone's best interest.
