Goddamnit. So much for ever picking up one of these cheap. I don't want a Dodge!! I mean, I have one now...but I don't want another one!
Chevrolet SS: no successor planned
Re: Chevrolet SS: no successor planned
At least he put his money where his mouth is.GM needs to fastrack a SS Sedan replacement built on the Alpha platform (ATS-V & Camaro) with the LT1 and a rev-matching stick. SInce the ATS is offered in AWD, there is no reason why AWD should not be an OPTION as well.
I bought both a 2016 Camaro SS and a SS Sedan with stickshifts last year. The performance, revmatching stick, and LT1 of the Camaro are all awesome. But, the terrible visibility and useless rear seast/trunk make the Camaro a failure for a street car., while the Corvette is a better track car.
The SS Sedan is a great daily driver, but could use the new Alpha chassis, stick, and LT1.
It's ridiculous that GM doesn't offer a 4 door version of the current Camaro.
It is true, though. GM does not make a sedan with the LT1, regardless of transmission. We need one!! It would actually be the closest spiritual successor to my CTS-V. More than the V2 and more than the V3.
Re: Chevrolet SS: no successor planned
People are going to remember history different than it happened. What they'll remember is GM imported the Holden Commodore here, again, sold as a Chevrolet SS. It sold few, so they closed the factory. That is such a perversion from what actually happened.
The real story is, they sold what they planned to sell (there was zero marketing, and thus no money wanted to be spent on a greater restyling effort), and the factory was closing anyway.

Re: Chevrolet SS: no successor planned
GM is suffering from a lack of variety.
I am sounding like a broken record but GM advertises 3 performance cars. The cheapest V8 starts at 38K. GM says "If you don't have 38K, you must want a FWD boring daily driver that now looks halfway decent. Now there will be 2 performance cars, one with a pretend backseat, and one with no back seat.
I guess GM doesn't know about the 3 series, VW, Dodge, Honda Accord V6, Audi, Hyundai/Kia, Ford to an extent (Fusion Sport, Focus ST/RS), Nissan, all of which make cars that would wipe the floor with the Cruze, Malibu, and Impala. I really think they messed up. GM should have made the Malibu a little bigger. The Cruze is their mid-sized, the Malibu would be the mid plus, full minus sized rental company special, and the Impala should have been on the Alpha!!!!! Then you could have a large Alpha 4 door Impala SS, a slightly smaller 2 Door Monte Carlo SS (B and G body replacements, like they historically practically shared a chassis). This would have been awesome. This would have given them a GN platform for Buick that could be turbo since the Chevys would be V8 N/A.
This would have filled out there performance portfolio to look like this:
Cruze SS hatch, Monte Carlo SS, Impala SS, Camaro, Corvette
instead we have:
Camaro, Corvette, maybe Cruze SS hatch...
