I don't think the F150 is that great of a vehicle

Post by kevm14 »

I have a new anecdote. One of my tenants had an ~04 F150, had problems, got a 2010 F150. Still problems. It needed a trans at like 65,000 miles. It needed a fuel pump. Something happened with the evap system, and the gas tank actually imploded from engine vacuum. It is a 4.6. The old truck was the 5.4 and probably had all those problems (manifolds, for one).

I said....hey...should have bought a Chevy. He was like "yeah, I know, but they are so much more expensive."

I think the used market actually accommodates for the shittiness of the F150 by being cheaper than the GM trucks. That's interesting.

I have found that the used market is generally pretty good at assessing the expected remaining life in a vehicle.

I guess this is my general Ford thread now.

This was funny: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRRwUlxd6Y8

He made a video in response to people asking why he likes Ford (he recently acquired a 1949 Ford tractor on top of his Ford Excursion, Ford Fusion and Ford F-150). There is some truth to that headlight replacement satire.

Here's a Ford guy though he's been trying really hard to make unbiased videos. He may have figured out that he gets better results because people from all brands are more likely to view the videos than just, say, Ford guys.

Anyway, starting at 6:59 (linked) he makes one observation comparing some under-hood engineering of this 2017 Silverado 2500 Duramax vs a Ford with the 6.7L Powerstroke. I think his observations are consistent with, at the very least, the way GM and Ford have approached diesels over the past 15 years. None of the diesels Ford has used starting with the 6.0L Navistar were known for being particularly serviceable within the fully assembled engine bay.

When you combine an issue-prone diesel with expensive service, you end up with....lower resale value (zing). I think the 6.7L has been a lot better than the prior two Navistar diesels but serviceability continues to be superior on the GM trucks I think.
