This is what's been happening to BMW's since the E30, and what happened between at least the first and second gen Mini. Somehow we find a way to like the new models. In the case of this 981, it sounds like suspension ride/handling just went up a notch. They're probably just answering the market.

I have to admit, I love these cars. I think they are by far the best looking in the Porsche lineup. I wouldn't buy one unless I won the lottery due to Porsche's repair/maintenance costs but they are nice to look at.

I have had the chance to spend some time behind the wheel of a 987 Cayman and while not nearly as exciting as the Elise in the mountains, it represented a good compromise between refinement and fun. The nice thing about it is that it's totally capable as a daily driver. I think it would be more fun if it was a hair less refined, but I guess that could be said for a lot of German cars.
