Catera/CTS/STS LS swap thread... It is officially here!

A lot of talk has led up to this thread and I am finally starting it!

So here is the deal. What would make the best swap chassis?

All of these are reasonably cheap, especially with a failed or failing drivetrain, which we don't want anyway...

The Catera is kind of heavy but we could potentially source GTO sub frames vise CTS-V sub frames which would likely be required for the CTS/STS swap. Is that actually cheaper/more available?

The Catera is not good looking, at all, the STS in my opinion actually is really nice, the CTS... somewhere in the middle.

The CTS has the weight advantage. My guess is that the STS has the most under hood room to work, and add turbo(s).


The Catera is the most "sleeper", and probably has the least electronics to integrate or disable. It is also the Caddy that zigs... and most people probably don't know it is a GTO in old mans clothing...


What do we do?
What are we going for?
Most sleeper? Most interesting? Something cool we would actually want to drive? Fastest in a straight line? Fastest in normal driving?

I am almost embarrassed to admit that I am just now learning the Catera was not FWD. Because of this, I think that it would be the best sleeper.
