Wow, this is another one like Tavarish or even Hoovie's Garage. I really like this guy. These cars do seem like a damn bargain. It pays to have some DIY skills though.

I volunteer to not be the one who does.

Just to put things into perspective, you could easily spend $10k on a G-body with supporting mods (if you are less Sloppy about it) and possibly be in the same mid 12s as one of these stock E55s. And the E55 is obviously a far nicer car. Not saying American hotrods are out and German stuff is in. Just a little context.

The guy did casually mention that he worked at MB as a tech for like 10 years, as he dropped the trans valve body to perform some kind of service on it...but then again, if you can build a hotrod, you can probably handle everything he did to that E55.

One of my friends from Maine bought one (2005 with like 80k for around $15k). He claims he has not had an issue with it since he got it, but he also doesn't drive it a lot. He bought it against my advice, but maybe I was wrong.

I don't know. The thing about MB for my own purposes is those earlier cars did not have any kind of chassis sophistication. They were just kind of luxo-rockets. Which is fine, but I'd want more, as I think you would.

Yeah, I love the sound of the 6.3L cars though. For the same money, I think I'd rather take a chance on the 105k mile SS I just posted in the other thread.

Brings 400k E55 to dealer for repair quote.

This looks good. He brings it in for a PPI and will discuss the things they listed (whether they were legit) and the things they missed. Yes, they missed things.

402k E55 on the dyno.

Basically it makes the proper amount of power. I don't understand why it hangs at high RPM on the dyno though. Either a soft rev limiter, or something the dyno load was doing I guess.
