Re: Caprice engine swap?
I can introduce you to a guy at work that used it. Then paid for a shop to do another vehicle. He said it is awful.POR 15 may or may not work better, but the spray cans are definitely easier to apply.
Re: Caprice engine swap?
Yeah it is, aside from the compatibility of the A/C compressor with the frame in some cases. The LT1 is thought of as a Gen 1.5 SBC. Same architecture, just very modernized within that old architecture. Actually, I guess the LT1 is technically a Gen 2...billgiacheri wrote:What are the stats on the LT1 again? Is it a direct bolt up to any older SBC cars?
People were yanking LT1s out of crashed B-bodies for a couple decades and using them for all kinds of projects. The thought is the B/D-body LT1 was a little underrated and wasn't really 40 hp less than the Corvette. It has a very mild cam and still makes a very broad amount of torque from basically 1000 rpm to 5000 rpm.
Re: Caprice engine swap?
So are you buying it?
Re: Caprice engine swap?
I think I need all this stuff. That last product is pretty cool. They've thought of everything.Adam wrote:I have:

I also recently bought:

I don't know how well the above works as I haven't used it yet.

I agree the report is very good. Thanks for letting my son use your bathroom yesterday. He liked your cats.
The only thing holding me back at this point is the rust. I know none of it looked like it was structurally compromised, but there were a number of areas that I would have to aggressively treat to ensure it lasts. I have no doubt that I would enjoy the car, but I'd really like to get another 10+ years out of it. As much as I don't want to look back and regret not buying your car, I don't want to look back and regret not buying something from a southern state. So, still mulling it over.

I'm not saying he's wrong...well, every B-body that is native to somewhere like Charlotte is perfectly rust free. Nothing amazing has to happen for that to be the case. Now for the paint, interior and mechanicals, that is another story. As you know truly rust free B-body cars of this era are few and far between. And those are likely owned by affectionados or collectors and asking price would be a lot more than $2500. Hopefully we will find a way to close a deal on this excellent car...Bob
Re: Caprice engine swap?
And like I keep saying to Jamie, I have no current plans to scrap the Caprice. I'd be at 6 cars for an indeterminate amount of time and I just don't know if even I can do that...
Re: Caprice engine swap?
I think if you actually use it for your winter beater as planned, vice subjecting the STS to unnecessary winter duty this year, it will need to be scrapped soon after the winter. I mean, you can push the limits, but safety wise, it will likely be close to pull the plug after another winter. Sure, it might not break in half, after the winter, but, you have to wonder how much is really left.I have no current plans to scrap the Caprice.
It is hard to justify "extra", especially when you don't have a good storage option for it.
Re: Caprice engine swap?
I took the Roadmaster on a 250 mile trip yesterday. Ran like a top. Smooth at 80 mph. I am going to have to figure out what I am going to do with it. Hard to believe I haven't sold it for $2500. Are you still considering it? Saturday is my day when I need to decide if I transport it to NC or not. Would love to have you take it...Bob
