Cheap Speed

Decent list actually. Unfortunately I am not super into many of these body styles, but I can understand how they made the list. The body styles being less sought after probably contribute to the low price. Number 5 is sweet.

My problem isn't the body styles (the article never attempted to round up all the good looking cars or something). My problem is the conflation of "sports car" with "speed." Maybe it's just a headline issue but the list has some sports cars on the list that are not fast. And some that are fast. I thought the point was "cheap speed?"

My preference, which is objectively defensible, is the newest, highest performance thing qualifies as most interesting when discussing something like "cheap speed."

I like about half the cars on the list.

Porsche Boxster 986
Drives nice, not fast. Classic sports car. But modern enough not to leave you stranded all the time.

Chevrolet Corvette C5
More muscle than sport unless in Z06 trim. Antidote to the Boxster. Good value, reliable.

Honda S2000
Ok performance, fun to drive. Classic sports car. Modern and reliable.

Mazda Miata NA
Lame performance, fun to drive. Cheap. Classic sports car. Reliable.

Those are my picks.

You forgot to list best manual shifter at any price as a benefit for the S2000.

Yeah, I like the RX-7 but the later body style, the Camaro Gen 3, and the Cayman (the Boxter but better body style)

I am not sure what the "fast" benchmark was here...

I like all the cars on the list. Especially the ones you don't like.

Seriously though, the carbureted RX-7s should not be in the list. They might be cheap, but they were not reliable.

If the budget is up to $10k, there's really no need for a first gen RX-7. I'm sure a near mint FC Turbo II can be had for that these days.

Will probably go for real money, since the bids are already at real money. Wonder if it will go over 10K.
