Disposed of an old monitor

Post by kevm14 »

But not just any monitor. The one I had before my current HP ZR24w. It was back at my first employer post college and I always coveted these monitors. I snagged one that was headed for disposal (people wanted flat LCDs - joke's on them, this was WAY better than most office LCD monitors in the mid 2000s, which were typically 6-bit color per channel and the actual screen performance was awful).

It says Dell but it is a Sony Trinitron, 21" CRT, 4:3. It would run up to 2048x1536, which, for the early/mid 2000s, was quite high. It's in fact higher than 1080p or even 1200p. Substantially so in the vertical. I usually used 1920x1440 @ 75Hz which, again, was quite high performance. It was great for photo stuff.

Anyway I found some old e-mails and it was starting to flicker and do weird stuff in early 2012. I moved it to the new house not working. Just this weekend I finally disposed of it. This is how long it takes me to finally part with something. That's broken. Imagine how hard it will be to throw away the Caprice.

Lower right.
