M/T: 2018 Camaro SS 1LE vs Mustang GT Performance Pack
Re: M/T: 2018 Camaro SS 1LE vs Mustang GT Performance Pack
It won this comparison. By a lot. And rightly so.
Re: M/T: 2018 Camaro SS 1LE vs Mustang GT Performance Pack
I don't even believe that the Mustang would win a longer distance race when the trap speeds are that close. It is faster on dirt because of traction. I suspect the lower torque of the Mustang made for a more broad and less peaky application of wheel torque, giving it a small traction advantage, which is something I've run across in LFS when modeling different cars. But who the hell cares about dirt traction? On the road (where these cars actually drive) the Camaro is designed to put power down. And it does. I really have no idea why they included that dirt thing, other than to throw a bone to Mustang guys.bill25 wrote: So... Screw the 1/4 mile. That race is no longer valid because the Mustang gets faster after that. "If this race was longer you so would have lost!!!"

Wait till I get over 1/4 miles and DOHC horsepower kicks in yo!

I read the article. The SS 1LE is very impressive. This makes me want to drive one.

Hmm.

Apparently the 2018 Mustang GT PP1 goes from 12.6 seconds at 115 mph with the manual to 11.83 seconds at 119.51 mph with the GT and 10 speed auto, though that is C&D vs Hotrod magazine. Anyway I am curious if the Camaro SS is capable of such numbers. I think the Mustang might have the edge there.

hahaha
Reality at the drag strip -
Regular drivers will be running 13s - 14s with both cars on street tires.
Long tire spins and a 50/50 shot the Mustang ends up in the wall.
Re: M/T: 2018 Camaro SS 1LE vs Mustang GT Performance Pack
You would think Ford would have learned something after watching GM go through the same pains in previous decades.Ford shot themselves in the foot trying to differentiate between pp1 and the GT 350.
Re: M/T: 2018 Camaro SS 1LE vs Mustang GT Performance Pack
The elephant in the room is... The SS1LE is really good. Like GT350 good. So how does Ford make a GT that is better than the SS 1LE, but not as good as the 350GT or 350GT-R. They can't.
The SS 1LE is pretty close to the GT350
GT350:
SS 1LE
GT350R
So when the SS 1LE is this close to even the GT350R, the ZL1 1LE must be on another planet - even to the GT350R
Maybe the GT500 will deliver. Unfortunately Ford is still gunning for the ZL1, so will there even be a Z/28?

Re: M/T: 2018 Camaro SS 1LE vs Mustang GT Performance Pack
GM has created something brilliant with the 1LE.
The SS 1LE is the ZL1 minus the LT4.
The V6 1LE is the SS minus the LT1.
When the platform is inherently good, this recipe is just this simple. Which is also why the value is so good. The S550 platform is just completely outclassed by Alpha. Shame on Ford for having a weak lineup of cars (including Lincoln) from which to pull technology. Engines aren't as hard even though the Camaro benefits from Corvette engines. I say this because the updated Coyote looks to finally be at parity. Maybe we'll see the port/DI and updated cubes in the trucks in which case never mind, it's not bespoke.
And no, I don't think the Z/28 will be the ZL1 1LE plus a super high HP engine. I actually hope the Z/28 is N/A, even if it takes DOHC to do it.

Re: M/T: 2018 Camaro SS 1LE vs Mustang GT Performance Pack
That isn't what I meant. I meant, do they even need to make one? What will it compete with? If the SS 1LE competes with the GT350/R and the ZL1 with or without 1LE will likely be more than adequate to compete with the GT500, what would the Z/28 even compete with? The GT (LOL)? Not that I don't want to see them make one, but for what? The ZL1 1LE is very close to the Z06/07, so what would the purpose of the Z/28 be? To drive 1LE track stuff for the next generation Camaro maybe? It just seems that if you are GM and counting the beans, unless the GT500 totally destroys the ZL1 1LE (I don't really see that happening. Best chance they have is beating it in a straight line.), why would they invest in a Z/28? Unless... With the Corvette going mid engine, there is less stuff that would transcend to the Camaro???And no, I don't think the Z/28 will be the ZL1 1LE plus a super high HP engine.
