I don't know if this is compatible.

Still looking for a P/N so I can search better, and maybe check compatibility.
Or this.

Garden tractor acquisition
Re: Garden tractor acquisition
I've done a lot of parts list research looking into the differences between the 12.5hp and 16hp. They are almost the same. Same displacement and major internals. Same carb. However the 16 hp uses a different main jet. My engine knowledge tells me that you can't just increase the fuel. You must also increase the air. Which lead me to look at the camshafts. Unfortunately they do appear to use different cams. But everything else is the same. Valves, valve springs, etc. But a cam swap is major engine surgery so I don't see that happening.
Re: Garden tractor acquisition
Now I am not sure if he has the right hitch frame. I suspect he does not.
I need 1690556.
https://www.partstree.com/parts/simplic ... wer-hitch/
You'll notice the 7100 is not on the list. This is exactly as much of a pain in the ass as I expected it to be.
So now I need to search for a 36" single stage that was actually installed on one of the machines in the hitch frame compatibility list. The thrower itself also needs to be checked but I think the hitch frame is the key part - it determines compatibility with both my frame and the thrower.
I asked him to check the number (or have someone check since he is in Florida). I think it will be the wrong one. There is still the issue with the long lever.
Yes, it would be "easier" to find a tractor with a thrower. That's just a whole extra level of effort I wasn't really looking for. If I can't get a thrower and the right hardware to mount it to mine, I probably just won't bother. I will keep looking though.

Back on the cam thing.
https://www.scribd.com/doc/147323713/Se ... ad-engines
If I am reading this right, the 12.5hp got a unique lower lift intake cam profile. The 14, 16, 18 and 20 shared a bigger intake lift.
The exhaust lift is shared with the 12.5-18 hp with the 20 hp model getting a unique higher lift exhaust cam profile.
Other fun facts: the 12.5-16 hp shared the 40cid displacement. There was a 42cid stroker and possibly a 46 but I don't know what horsepowers those were. Also Briggs played with carb restrictor plates or throttle limiting stops to get even more HP levels in between these. It also looks like the bore was the same on all of these.
Anyway, I'm pretty satisfied that I'd have to swap my cam and carb main jet to turn mine into a 16hp.

Re: Garden tractor acquisition
Ever since I bought this tractor it has had intermittent issues restarting when hot. It was such a nuisance when I was using that utility trailer to haul dirt/rocks to the back yard that I ended up just letting it idle for a long time instead of shutting it off.
I may finally tackle this.
I have previously done research that indicates the coil/magnetron/whatever on these just breaks down when hot. Some can get so severe that it actually shuts off when hot. Mine has never done that. But yeah it is a very commonly reported problem. Here's a video of replacing it. Not too bad.

A little pricey at $53.68 but it will save some annoyance and unnecessary wear on the starter and battery when it happens. I probably want a Briggs part, not a universal. Maybe I can get it cheaper than Jacks.

Re: Garden tractor acquisition
I can get a generic for a little over $11.

I'm thinking I should get something better than the cheapest generic one...unless they are all made at the same place and B&S just slaps their name and marks it up. Who knows.

This one has an unrecognized part number that is very close to the one that is supposed to fit mine (and the hitch). 1691547.

6216 shows up as compatible with the 1690547 so that seems good. Now, when I look up my hitch frame, the 6216 also shows up. So, I seem to have found something here. I will contact him and see what parts he has. The whole Honda thing is very strange...if I am REALLY lucky the 6216 long lever/handle is compatible and he could provide that since the tractor died. A little too convenient but I'll contact him.36" snowblower off a Simplicity 6216 tractor. I bought this year but tractor died before I could try it. Previous owner used on 500' driveway. Is actually a Honda SB1013A but identical to Simplicity blower, hitch fits perfectly. Can fit small or large frame Simplicity tractors. I put new poly shoes on but I have original metal shoes. Auger and chute spin fine. Cash only.

Re: Garden tractor acquisition
So... Good???
I would say, the only way to know for sure otherwise if this falls through is to find your model tractor for sale with the thrower, and ask if you can just buy the thrower.
