General Kia Rondo Thread

Post by Bob »

Since I am now daily driving the Rondo, I wanted to make a thread for it and all the things it needs. Obviously, my willingness to fix these issues depends on how long I keep driving it or we keep the car.

Wheel balance (man, was it bad at 70+) - fixed on 4/27 for $20
Generally noisy tires (cost prohibitive to fix, but it annoys me)
Another trans fluid exchange
Spark plugs (still has the OEM plugs that are 10 years old and have 97k on them). The rear bank is a pain due to having to remove part of the intake to do it.
Front Rotors. They are warped and it's annoying.

Checked the oil level today for the first time since I changed the oil on 12/23/17. It has traveled about 2k miles since then! The oil was still a little above full on the dipstick and looked generally pretty clean. I used M1 5W20 for the last oil change.

Not surprisingly, I haven't completed any of the other items.

I guess oil consumption isn't really a good indicator of....anything.

True, although it is something I can add to the small list of positives for the Rondo.

I did another transmission fluid exchange (now I have 75% new fluid) and added the Dr. Tranny Instant Shudder Fixx. The car does seem to engage and hold lockup better now. Not sure if this will impact fuel economy at all. Let's just say that isn't exactly one of the high points of this vehicle. My last 3 tanks have been 18.3, 18.4 and 18.7, compared with an original EPA rating of 20/27 and an adjusted rating of 18/25.

Basically all city, so I guess it isn't really below the acceptable range. It just seems pretty bad for a vehicle that traps in the low to mid 80s.

16.8 @ 83.3 according to MT. They had one in their long term fleet for a couple years.

The Rondo reminds me of a really nice box, like the kind my dad used to bring home filled with oranges from the local citrus distributor.
