The real problem there is that the PPV is not "Almost a Chevy SS" the way a 94-96 9C1 was "Almost an Impala SS.". It's not even based on the same Holden vehicle (Statesman vs Commodore). It's true though that if they imported the Commodore and Statesman all along, even with less than SS trim, we'd have a lot more options now. I'd also change my tune if the Caprice PPV used the exact SS drivetrain. Where's the LS3 police car?

Also, I guess you could just build your own LS3 police car for similar money. Start with a couple thousand dollar '85 Caprice, add an LS3/4L80E and some racecar suspension. I'd probably be more inclined to do something like that than buy a more modern car outright.

Although there would be some advantages to the latter:
- Already complete
- Has resale value (which has never been a consideration for me)
- Insurance coverage would more accurately represent the financial investment into the car

Yeah it's not a great result if you spend about the same money (plus all the labor though it is a labor of love so that's a thing, because cars), but end up with a car that's really not worth that much. It would be one thing if it was 1/2 the cost or less. Or, you ended up with something that traps like 120mph in the 1/4 mile.

I am really just talking more about daily driver type cars. The (one or more) enthusiast car can be whatever you want.

If it was that easy to slap a car together you'd have had your Monte Carlo on the road for the last 10 years, right? It's not so much that it is hard, but that life and stuff gets in the way. The effort just to plan the job, make the time, follow it through, deal with the challenges, etc. It's a big commitment.

Good point. I'm liking my daily stock so it works. Maybe one day I will have a stock daily that isn't always broken.

I know I'm jumping into the game a little late, But here is my 2 cents. I have owned an 06, 07 and a 2012 Coupe (auto) along with a camaro 1LE, and three vettes. The gen 1 yes I said it !! The GEN 1 V has been the most fun to drive, take to cars and coffee, and to own.

Considering I drove it less than 1,200 miles over the past TWO years, yeah...

I know I said I didn't want to subject it to the rigors of daily driving but obviously I compensated too hard in the other direction.
