Let me make one correction since I keep making small errors on warranty statements (I am not GM in fairness to me, believe it or not).
The powertrain warranty will run out by time in late May 2019, because it looks to me that the in service date was like May 29th 2013 but PLEASE VERIFY with a GM dealer if unsure. That was probably factory with the car, but doesn't matter if it wasn't. The terms are the terms. But that may not really matter because:
The 12 month/12k mile bumper to bumper is really the CPO part, and therefore would run to Sept 2019 and 12k miles from now. So basically a full warranty with no deductible for a full year. Please verify this, as well (recommend a printout not someone's verbal confirmation).

Dealer was 100% right. Customer wanted to buy the car, have it shipped and then pay for insurance after delivery. And how does that sound like a good idea? I mean I guess the shipping company should be responsible but I would want that shit insured. But what he said next is just wrong.They keep asking us to show them an insurance card and policy saying the car is covered before we purchase the car. We told them we would have insurance on the car when we bought it and picked it up.
He then continued to say that's not how they do things ,
Best case, his insurance agent lied to him. Worst case, he is flat out lying. You do NOT need to own the car to insure it. Period. They don't need the bill of sale. They don't need the title. They don't even need a picture of you in the car. In fact, not that I have ever financed, but wouldn't the bank also require proof of insurance BEFORE cutting a check??we then said our insurance company won't even issue coverage until we owned the car.

I think I am going for the ZL1. Almost the 2016 SS performance, actually decently better in the 30-50 and 50-70, basically the same 0-60, 0-100, and the 1/4.
Also, about the same price as the gen 6 used, and the ZL1 to me is the best looking. I may have to wait a little to get one at a decent price, but I can look and make low offers in the mean time.

Are those all manuals? Obviously the 1LE is. So that's 6th gear from 30 mph which is probably below idle. Just remember that when comparing manuals to automatics. Also the ZL1 is probably like a full 5 mpg worse than the SS for the same performance. And look at the braking.

I was comparing the ZL1 to the 2016 SS. Not sure if it was manual. The ZL1 was manual. C/D observed mpg was... 13.

The LSA is going to get atrocious fuel economy on premium. That's just a fact of life and both a naturally aspirated LS3 or LT1 will do substantially better, if that matters.
ZL1 is 236 lbs heavier than the 1LE.

I like what they said here, though with their botched shift it seems like the cars wouldn't be all that far apart. Granted you aren't tracking the 1LE but man if you were, it would have a huge consumables advantage I think.
It depends what you want. I think the 1LE is actually more special than the ZL1, which is kind of half Camaro and half Challenger. I think you like that actually. Or maybe 3/4 Camaro and 1/4 Challenger. Maybe that's my problem. The 1LE, new SS and those vehicles are miles away from associating with heavy muscle stuff that can't turn. The ZL1 can turn but there is a cost - it is still heavy, and you give up a ton of interior space to something like a Challenger.
For the record I also am not a fan of the MR stuff and LSA complexity for someone who hates options and, well, complexity. I just like that the 1LE does almost as much (granted, not in a straight line) with a lot less. It's just more lean. Also, forget the track, the 1LE offers a performance envelope that is very high but imo, approachable on the street after you gain some skill and familiarity with it. I'm not sure I would say the same for the ZL1 - mainly because it doesn't handle any better than the 1LE, in fact it is a bit worse, but is a lot faster. Kind of skews the balance. Meanwhile, the ZL1 seems like a CTS-V2 coupe with most of the same complexity and none of the luxury, which, back on my sedan rant, is particularly useless because a V2 sedan has the exact same performance as the coupe. But I digress.
