New shed!
Re: New shed!
Finished Sunday. Had to run out for more 3" screws but I also decided to tweak the design which definitely added time. I added bracing under each of the frame "stringers" which I just cobbled together from the scrap pieces. Essentially I added bracing midway up each stringer because the dirt sort of sloped away from the driveway. The end of the stringers was really only supported at the driveway end at the thinnest part of them, due the angle cuts.

Re: New shed!
That took a while but then I also decided to switch out the last board for a wider one. I couldn't get a wider 5/4 board but I was able to find a 1x8". But this means the board was only 0.75" thick. So I bought 1/4" shim strips (think pressure treated lathe) to used underneath to space the 1" board up to match the others. More tedium due to the shims moving around and also the boards came in 8 foot lengths, so I had to buy two, decide where to cut, etc. Other nuisance issues were having to switch to shorter screws as I ran out of meat on the stringers, or run them in at angles so the screw wouldn't bottom out on the driveway.
All done! Time for the REAL fun part. Using the shed.
I need to build a ramp for the barn doors but that can wait. I will also probably rearrange the shed a few times until I am happy the space is efficiently utilized. I think the Simplicity lawn tractor needs to be in front of the barn doors (once I have a ramp) and the big Simplicity in front of the big door. Of course during the summer I can place the big Simplicity somewhere else, and during the winter, I can also place the Simplicity lawn tractor somewhere else. We'll see. Good stuff. Now I just need to make sure my big dirt hill doesn't completely wash away....

Re: New shed!
And it's done. But not before I had to re-level the shed.
I noticed the barn doors weren't level so I figured the back left had dropped. Sure enough I jacked it up and that seemed to fix it so I ended up adding 1/4" shims to the left rear and area just to the right of that (second most left rear). Then I noticed the lower left of the roll up door wasn't level (there was a gap with the door closed) so I ended up jacking up the front left and also the next one down. The front left required 3/4" and it still wanted more. So this may become a thing. I hope it settles eventually, though I still need to keep the hill from falling down. Anyway, onto the ramp.
I'll just quickly run down the things that were different from the other ramp:
- The barn doors extend down past the shed floor, plus I had to position the 2x4 ledger board an inch down to make room for the ramp decking so there wasn't much meat to screw into
- I decided to bury the ramp stringers instead of try to cut level with the dirt
- didn't feel like blocking between supports
- It's 6 feet side with 7 stringers 12" on center
- Length of the stringers was 45" so definitely a smaller ramp overall and I was able to get it done this afternoon
