The article mentions they made just over 37,000 2014 Corvettes. Seems like a pretty high number.

Yes. Basically they figure, it's a great car, for a great price, let's make all we can sell. The only time you need to limit production for "exclusivity" is when the price is way higher. Folks who pay that inflated price want to have something special. Consequently the OEM also needs the inflated price to have ROI. That's not the only way to do it.
