2014 E63 brake job

It's pronounced "chassy." Brakes, suspension...things that make the car fun or a death trap

2014 E63 brake job

Post by kevm14 »

I have made quite a few posts postulating about brakes. I was considering doing brakes at the same time as the front struts but I might just try to milk these pads/rotors a bit longer. It's not REALLY a while you're in there job. Car is up, wheels are off I guess but aside from that, no.

So I'll at least make a list of stuff to order or consider ordering and pick this up some other time.

Part of this job I will be upgrading the front two piece 360mm rotors to two piece 390mm. Two piece adds hundreds each.

Longer Porsche caliper bolts x 2: https://www.sunsetporscheparts.com/oem- ... a700758500

I already have the 15mm machined spacers in a box.

Would need to make sure I have brake fluid because it's due for a flush.

And the final item is choosing a pad. Really would be nice if I could get something that matches front to rear. Previously I was considering trying the Hawk HPS 5.0. Nothing crazy as it is a street car. Pads and calipers are already compatible with the 390mm rotors as the spacers just move everything outboard by 15mm.

Hawk doesn't offer much for this car according to this. I can get front HPS 5.0.....lame.

Or wait a minute.

According to this I can get a front and rear HPS 5.0?? Come on Hawk. Maybe I should just order so I have them.

$400 for pads (both axles). Tires and brakes are pricey on this car.

Ended up ordering the Porsche brake caliper bolts on eBay because with shipping it was HALF the cost of that dealer link I had before. Win. $21 for 4 OEM Porsche bolts, shipped. That is quite reasonable.

Left to order at some point:
- Front and rear rotors
- Brake fluid (probably Pentosin)

I can't find a record of when I had Tire Pros do the rear lines. That should have been when the brake fluid was last flushed. Had the car for 2 years so normally it would have been due but not under these circumstances.

Brake lines and fluid was done May 21st, 2024. I asked for DOT 4 so really this could go another year by the book. I don't know if the pads will.
