2001 GMC K2500 Front Shock Washer Failure
2001 GMC K2500 Front Shock Washer Failure
Heard a rattle on a dirt road in Vermont and determined it was the right front shock floating in the upper mounting hole. The lower bushing washer must have rusted out and the shock pushed up through. Top and nut look ok. I wonder if there’s a shoulder and I can throw a washer on it or if I have to find a new shock.

Turns out it was a latent defect from the Hicksville Ohio assemblers. They had flipped the lower rubber bushing and metal washer when they installed it. Flipped it over and it appears all good. Shock seemed plenty hard to compress, so I think it still has life left. Even the bushings look fine.
