2010 Tundra: fix tonneau cover drains

Post by kevm14 »

It appears that from the original install the drain hoses were not properly routed through a hole/grommet to the ground. As it is now, the left drain hose deposits water directly under the cargo cover. And the right drain hose is missing entirely, which deposits some water under the cargo cover and some on top. Total fail. I was able to order a new set of hoses. And I did a little measuring and drilling with a step bit. I douched the holes from the top and bottom with surface shield (rather than bother with paint).

The hoses are kind of interference fit and I pulled them down to one "click" of the corrugated hose so they should stay put. This is great and I wish this was done originally.

I actually did the drilling before I received my missing hose. Fortunately the new hose was the same as the old hose. I just reused the left hose which was already there and used one of the new ones for the pass side.

There is water on the cargo cover after the rain yesterday. So more investigation is warranted.

I replaced these clips that hold the prop rods.

I got the correct ones which snap in but some previous owner must have broken them and replaced them with some screwed in clip. Well I removed those screws when I installed the clips. But those holes are the source of more leaks, because they go directly into the drain channels. So I RTV'd the holes. Hopefully this helps. I think the cover panels themselves may be leaking but I'll chip away at what I can find.

I also verified with a hose that both drains are working.

If you're still chasing it, hopefully you mean there was water under the tonneau, not on it. I would expect the top of it gets wet when it rains if the truck is outside.

I said cargo cover. That's the one in the bed. I guess it's a bed liner. A plastic one. For cargo. To cover the bed. Words are hard?
