The transmissions were different, but I can't find out how. Here are the part numbers:
1998: GF9403000
2002: GFY403000B

I thought my 1998 was a lot better (faster and more comfortable) than my 2002 even though at first glance they are "the same car". The 02 is 225 lbs heavier with 5 less hp.
