C&D: 2015 Dodge Charger Pursuit V-8 AWD

Post by Bob »

Interesting that the cop version carries over the 5-speed auto. I also had a 2014 Chrysler 300 rental that still had the 5-speed auto even though I am almost certain Chrysler's website said the 8-speed is standard.

Just saw that fleet buyers are still only getting the 5-speed auto. I find this disappointing since the 8-speed was so nice in the JGC I rented a couple months ago.

220A alternator!

Man, back in my day, 140A was big business. Ok I guess that was 20 years ago.

Well the 5-speed is a known quantity and sharing with previous Charger police cars a fleet may have is beneficial.

Also, 4,579 lbs!

Interesting discussion.
"and makes it easier to handle a car safely at speed" um no. These system are center differential-less.

Chrysler's system declutches the hubs for better mileages. So there is a response time for the system to re-engage; which means your aren't driving out of an unstable situation.

How about departments buy quality [season appropriate] tires instead of 'awd'?
I agree, equiping a cruiser with appropriate winter tires would eliminate this need.

Why do cop cars go through multiple sets of tires a year? A few years ago we ran 40 Autocross events on a set of Yokohama AD-08 180 treat wear street tires for fun. Passed the car over the winter for state inspection. Having done both, I'll take winter tires over AWD all day.
Stupidity... The general public is buying into AWD. Clearly the government isn't immune.

Around here (Wisconsin) I've seen winter tires on the Crown Vics so it does happen.
HA!
The Crown Vics came standard with Goodyear Ultra Grip GW2's that were used year round by the departments in my area and we see a ton of snow. The Eagle RS-A on the other hand is a poor choice no matter what season it is.
AWD seems mandatory when you're looking at a Taurus but it just makes this Charger ridiculously porky.
