I thought I had one of these.

I like the message here, though I'm not sure his audience appreciated the technical points.

12V53.

It revs so fast. That's a 10.4L V12. Detroits are sweet. This one is capable of 3000 rpm.

16V149. Not for over the road use.

This is a 39L V16 engine with quad turbos. Fairly conservative factory rating.

1,070 hp @ 1900 rpm and 3,106 lb-ft @ 1400 rpm. What's cool about Detroits is that even the larger engines still have RPMs.

Another 16V149.

A 16V149 hooked to a 1.5MW Kohler generator. Long vid, as they do a 4 hour load test on it. When they get to 1.3MW you really hear the turbos.

Appears to be the same, or very similar, unit:

How about a 2-71 generator?

12-20kW on these. Inline 2 cylinder, 2.3L of displacement.

I'll take a little liberty and put EMD stuff in here, too, since they were both owned by GM at one point and are 2-stroke diesels.

Train starting up.

EMD repair.

Be sure to check out the replacement cylinder liner, piston and connecting rod assembly around 2:30. It requires a crane.

Also some kind of pneumatic nut torqueing machine at 8:40.

Fun fact: Detroit Diesels and EMD engines are both 2-stroke and have 4 intake valves per cylinder. The exhaust vents out the bottom of the cylinder after the power stroke.
