This is a good 25 minute old documentary on the body division of GM. So many computers.

You may see these labels on the lower door sill on, say, a 77-90 B-body:

One of the important introduction messages in this video is how pivotal the automobile was in growing the US economy, "allowing" people to be more productive. So not only was the automobile design and production business a large one, but it acted as a multiplier to the greater economic prosperity. Yes, and they also happen to be a fun hobby.

Also this video is from 1970. Be sure to check out the front AND rear airbag R&D segment. That's right.

At 13:40, you can see engineers optimizing the famous GM "break my chins" door hinge detents.

Caption:
See how if the door starts closing your hand can easily stop it? We need to improve it so the door closes right on your chins even if you try to stop the door from closing. Even if the car is facing downhill. This will be a challenge but I think we have enough computers to pull it off.
