This is funny to watch. The end talks about how the 84 was getting a manual gear box option - that never happened.

The performance numbers now are awful for a performance car, but it seemed respected at the time. Interesting how they talk about aerodynamics on this box of a car.
MotorWeek | Retro Review: '83 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
Re: MotorWeek | Retro Review: '83 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
The sillyness with the redneck in overalls was unexpected from such a vanilla PBS show like MotorWeek.
Also, good trap speed but lousy off the line due to tall first gear. That trap speed in a B-body would produce a 15.5-15.7 second 1/4. And I suppose same with the 2004R Montes.

My 4-cylinder Camry is faster....Idiots! You have a big v8 engine that performs poorly. Why are you Yanks so proud of suck big junks? Such a joke you are
Re: MotorWeek | Retro Review: '83 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
The thread with the Monte Carlo enthusiast who denied they ever made a manual trans Monte Carlo was pretty hard to watch as non-enthusiasts proved him wrong.
Re: MotorWeek | Retro Review: '83 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
I didn't realize there was ever a MT Monte.

I guess I was just thinking of the 80s ones when I considered that.
Re: MotorWeek | Retro Review: '83 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
Well, to be clear, there was never a Monte Carlo SS from 83 to 87 that came from the factory as a manual. I have seen some modified to be manual though.
Re: MotorWeek | Retro Review: '83 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
I think the problem is, people say "Monte Carlo" and are implying that the only Monte Carlo worth discussing is the SS.
Re: MotorWeek | Retro Review: '83 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
You are right, the 70 to 72 are Awesome, and the 3rd Gen (78-80) aren't bad either.
