VW Vortex: Impala SS or Marauder?
Re: VW Vortex: Impala SS or Marauder?
I am kind of in a similar situation with the Elise, except that the decision to keep it is confounded by the fact that it is worth a lot money and slowly increasing in value. I have had it over 9 years now, which is "forever" for me. I could make a rational argument that it's better to cash out my $30k and put it towards a nicer daily driver (that and the proceeds from the Rondo would get me within spitting distance of a CTS-V, C63 AMG, M3 and others), or better yet something that actually makes financial sense other than a car. It is hard to argue with the sentimental value though.
Re: VW Vortex: Impala SS or Marauder?
That's why the current bid is only $5k. I don't think the Impala is the way to go for affordability. Too much....SS?kevm14 wrote:$9k and still needs TLC? TLC is cool when you pay $1300 for a Fleetwood with 71k on it...but I do wonder if I should start looking semi-seriously for affordable, rust-free options to replace my Caprice. Although the thought of getting rid of it makes me pretty sad. Probably not sad enough to do a body off resto...
This is more like what you want http://m.ebay.com/itm/261925884572?cmd=VIDESC

It wouldn't be a B-body ad without at least one reference to the "Corvette" engine.
Re: VW Vortex: Impala SS or Marauder?
And it wouldn't be eBay without at least one factual error (93 was the L05).
But man, Ed would be so jealous. Portland, Oregon, eh? Now that would be a road trip.
It would be kind of fun to think about the different B-body options, like a civilian LTZ, RMS or Fleetwood. Or real Impala $$. Or 90-92 Brougham. No airbags though. Yet ABS (at least standard on the 91-92). Trivia: can anyone think of another car that had standard ABS but no airbags?
The sad thing is, all I really want is my Caprice with a modern powertrain under it.

That is a very nice looking RMS. Too nice. I know where there's an L05 RMS in black with red pinstripes that's practically abandoned. Should be a less than $1000 car by a good margin. I want to save it, but don't have the space, time, or money.
One flat tire. Four impala SS wheels and some clean up would do it wonders.

The white on blue reminds me of my Fleetwood, though this blue is darker. I would rock this. But I also miss my FWB.
