The GMT-400 trucks and SUVs were good looking. And these beat the Expedition to market by a full 2 years. Performance seems pretty bad with the L05, but 96 saw the introduction of the L31 (Vortec 5700) which made a big difference. In fact, back in the late 90s and early 2000s, before all this talk of LS-swaps, the conversation was on how much easy power you could get with a standard 350 and those Vortec heads.
