Ran across this as I was hunting for some other cars: http://winstonsalem.craigslist.org/cto/5144217225.html Appears to be pretty solid other than peeling paint.

Looks like it is in pretty good shape. The interior looks great but the dash looks like it is cracked in 2 places. Very common. I would like to see better pictures of the trunk, rear quarters and rear frame.

Looks pretty solid from the pictures. The hood looks to be the worst, and I would replace that with a cowl hood anyway (nothing crazy, maybe a couple inches).

Well Mount Airy is near the NC/VA line. And if it lived there all its life, there's a good chance that rust hasn't taken hold. This is why you need to travel to get what you want.

Traveling for a rust free car is worth it in my opinion. I can't express how much better southern cars are to work on than northern cars. I did struts on my 02 Civic Si with simple hand tools and didn't have an issue getting any bolt out. I also reused all the bolts. I also got the 02 sensor out with minimal effort. This type of thing just doesn't happen on northern cars. The guy who bought my Civic came down from Ohio to get it and I think he made a good choice.

...but at least it's the other side in the short direction (still about 2 hrs away) North Carolina isn't that big N-S, but it's huge E-W.

Sounds like you want to go look at this car for Bill. This sounds like the kind of deal that you just can't get in New England.

Plus, 2 hours isn't that long of a drive in NC. You drive 2 hours in RI and you're in Maine.

All that, and it's just an N/A V6.
