RCR: Tesla P85

Warning: excessive swooning.

So 400-ish HP in a pretty heavy car? Is this even faster than my CTS-V? And no, I don't mean 0-60.

Interestingly, this is the first I've heard that the interior befits a Honda Accord or an Infiniti. I hate to be that guy, but if GM made this, we'd be hearing all about how the car is pretty good, but the interior does not match the price tag.

Of course GM damn well COULD make this car. But seeing as how Tesla doesn't actually make a profit (and by not a profit, I mean a 19% loss), I don't see why they would.

I still want to drive one, though.

416 hp and 4,647 lbs. Yes, due to the area under the curve, I'm sure it is faster than a 416 hp ICE car of the same weight, but that only accounts for so much.

12.417 @ 111.57 according to this: http://www.dragtimes.com/Tesla-Model-S- ... 25833.html

That's equivalent (and a tad slower on the big end) than a 2001 C5 Z06 (which can be had for $18k), for your convenience. And that is definitely faster in ET and MPH than my CTS-V. A Chevy SS would be about even with it from a roll, though, and that is actually a nice car with a lot of room.

Look, I understand the power delivery is immediate and the car is silent. That's great. But it's not the second coming of Jesus. Almost reminds me of the LT1 B-body idiots that thought they were faster than anything on the road and refused to believe anything pedestrian (like a 4th gen Maxima) could even come close. I think some people just need to get out more.

I drove a P85D once and I must say the hype is justified. It's hard to describe how fun instant power is. I think it adds an element of excitement to the car that even a big torquey V8 can't duplicate. Even in a C5Z06, you have to wind up the car, shift, etc. The Tesla just goes.

Well the RCR is about the P85. I know the D is faster.

I guess it's no single thing but a combination of being silent and refined along with no downshifting or waiting required to get power.
