Kind of a storied history regarding powertrain choices. Looks like they are going with a 3.0L V6 and a turbo. Also interestingly, they are dropping the DSG for a torque converter automatic, due to the increased torque output of the new engine (369 lb-ft). GM has long cited torque as one (of several, like cost and packaging) reasons they haven't pursued these transmissions, and this choice by Audi seems to legitimize that.
One commenter suggested this is related to the Porsche Macan engine, a vehicle which I had to look up to remember what it is.
From a total performance standpoint, these always missed the mark, though they were nice (and quite unreliable) cars with power sapping AWD. But the last supercharged V6 was quite potent and they began getting the chassis demons under (some) control.
Impressively, this is expected to weigh in at only 3,594 lbs. So it might not totally suck (to drive), even if the engine still hangs annoyingly out over the front axle.
C/D: 2017 Audi S4 going turbo, again

I think I might be tired of this shape. We've been looking at it since the 1996 Audi A4.
