Sounds great! I just found a nice 2010 V6 Camaro for $13K. I'm going to run out and buy it.

Said no one ever.

I agree 1000% My whole point was this:
Kevin was all excited that the new V6 being a decent car, and thinking that would matter I said that it doesn't matter because nobody cares. Then I just wanted to show that the Gen 5 V6 really wasn't that bad, especially for the money, but it didn't matter, nobody wanted it. So my argument was, why will anyone want this, especially with $2.25 gas?

You're the only one obsessed with something that most people don't want - the LS trim level. Which is GONE for 2016 by the way.

The gen 5 V6 had performance per dollar in the same way that the 4th gen Z28 did. And as you sample a wider variety of what's available on the market, you'll realize (as Bob did) that there is more than magazine stats to make a car good and desirable.

The problem is, it's way too easy to argue magazine stats.

Well, you were the one that actually wanted to go to magazine stats. I drove 2 of them, and said I liked them better than any other rental that I have driven, and better than my cars.

I am also not arguing for the car. You are missing the point completely.

I have chosen the method of trashing the gen 5 V6 to prove that the gen 6 has propelled the V6 pony car to a new level. The thing is, it speaks for itself and needs no further argument, in my opinion. Yet here we are.

I agree and I get it. I just disagree that anyone actually cares about the V6 pony car segment. There is also a turbo 4 cyl pony car segment now that nobody cares about.

I think there is an interesting conversation though....

Folks would say the big engine models made up for the sins of the platform, in traditional pony car history. So the lower power models basically had no real point, except to drive something shaped "like the good one" as I mentioned before. A lot of buyers would rather pay a little more and get something with a better blend of performance and quality. But what if the V6 (and turbo 4) WERE good enough to objectively consider? I think both Ford and GM have been thinking about that. IMO, the gen 6 turbo 4 and V6 does a much better job on that argument than the Ecoboost and V6 Mustangs.

That said, the Mustang has a similar advantage to the way it always was: it's a more practical (and maybe comfortable) Regular Car, which has nothing at all to do with performance. Bill, you would say if someone wanted a regular car, why even look at pony cars? I dunno, but we'll see what sales do. We know what the professional reviewers think.

I agree. I do think that the V6 will sell, but I think it will be for the same reason as the past: It looks cool because it's a Camaro, and cost. I really think cost is the only reason these were bought over the V8,. Which makes sense.

Are there sales figures available for the Gen5s?

Sure but what kind of analysis are you proposing? V6 to SS? Camaro to Mustang? By year? Something else?

Yes.

The ratio of V6 to V8 would be a good starting point for continuing this conversation.
