I feel like standard test drives are inadequate for me to evaluate these cars the way I want to. I wish I could rent each one for a day and bring it up to the mountains to really wring it out.

I agree that tells you what the capability is as far as any extreme you'd subject it to, but, would you really take this vehicle instead of the Elise on a specific pleasure drive like that?

I would like to do a long highway run as well and in general be able to evaluate the feel of the car in a variety of circumstances. I feel like all the rental experiences I had allowed me to become far more familiar with the cars I wanted to buy than a simple test drive.

Another E90: https://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/5407481541.html These look to be pretty attainable in the mid/high 20s.

Not enough LS, but yes, that is interesting.

The 302 w/ T5 trans is probably the original Volvo V8 swap to be fair. But in 2016 I expect no pushrod V8 other than an LS.

Yeah, I think this was in Car and Driver when I was like 12. I remember thinking it was pretty cool at the time.

Some people like small block Fords. Although price-wise, they aren't a substantial bargain.
