LS swap 03 Grand Marquis

Post by kevm14 »

Step 1: Buy Shawn's 03 Grand Marquis for $500
Step 2: Buy junkyard LQ4, 4L80-E and P71 rear axle
Step 3: ...
Step 4: Go fast

I did a lq9/4l80e in my marauder.

Only documented panther ls swap I know of. Used fox conversion engine mounts and a flipped and modified panther xmember. Reyoked factory driveshaft for the 4l80e splines and made a custom dash.

After spending 10 years driving around in those patrol cars (and some other ones we don't like to talk about - Dodge Diplomats ) and some that were sweeeeeeet (LT1 powered Caprices) I can tell you without a doubt that those 4.6 motors don't have **** for bottom end power and I could definitely see a Cobra style supercharger being an awesome (and stealthy) way to go......don't get me wrong, an LSx transplant would be bitchin' and fun and mighty powerful, but when the car already has HD everything built in it, why not just go with what we all (sadly) know works and that is the Cobra tricks from 2003-2004?

6.0L (LQ4), 76MM Turbo, 4L80E

Functional A/C, Power steering, all stock insturments as well.

Should be a sleeper! lol.

11.8 @ 113 with the old full bolt on 2V setup, blew it up, decided I wanted to go faster, so I got a junkyard 5.3, and started to put stuff together.
Stock rotating assembly 2000 suburban motor 180K, ARP head bolts, cam, Lunati springs. TH400 trans, 76mm master power, E85, and a whole ####load of boost and timing.
I'm not for sure what year exactly without looking, but from early '00 or so onward, things get much more difficult. On those newer Panther's, the insturment cluster received all the engine data via the CAN network from the PCM. I have read where people have suggested leaving the stock Ford ECU up and running, and then using the stock Ford sending units on the LS motor still, this way the Ford ECU still sends the data to the Cluster. However, there will be side effects from this such as a check engine light, possible ABS light, Tach inop?

Sloppy Mechanics build on a Panther. This ought to be informative.

I hope we could do better than that. Starting with using a single turbo.

The files are to take the sharp edges off the cuts in the hood. They aren't barbarians, you know.

The truck intake and TB aren't as high as I thought they'd be. What I forgot is that the stock Ford hood already has a healthy bulge for the stupid 4.6. Certainly the car intake would fit no problem, as it does under a B-body hood.

Ah, update mid 2015:
Cop car is sold to a fellow sloppy mechanics member. It took way longer than planned to build this thing from a distance (about an hour and half of where I live is where I had the car since I had no room at my place for a project) so I decided to part ways with it and pump the money into my real estate investment avenue with my buddy in philly. Anyway, the ditched the twins and went with a single 78 and it sneezed 500hp on pump gas no meth. he is working out some trans issues but the car is up and running and in the hands of someone local to where the car was who is enjoying messing with it.

updated post in members rides coming in a few minutes.
And that's the end of the thread. Need to follow the car I guess.
