#1: 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Big surprise!!! People that drive these are in a brainwashing cult. That is the only excuse for their insane resale values. I am not even saying that they are bad trucks, but

unspecified mileage, $7,500 for a 15 year old 4 cyl truck.

Here is another for 8K, 4cyl, 150K miles (not bad) and sweet cloth seats.

164,000 miles 8 years old, 16K, but this is a V6!!! Well equipped with cloth seats and a lackluster interior!

People are DRUNK!

Here is my favorite:
Accident, pretty sure (LOLOLOL), but no problem, bungee cord hood latch, over 300K miles, sweet cloth seats, but racing gauges (white background), new frame by Toyota under warranty, with good pictures of the floor rust holes, not repaired. Dented rear quarter and broken tail light. Sweet Nascar sticker (+4K in value???), steel miss-matched rear rim, can be yours for the low price of $4,500

WTF???

With rust issues, poor mileage and a poor ride, I really don't understand these, when we live in an age where you can rack up 300-400k on a 1/2 ton pickup without too much work (maybe a transmission replacement or two - not like a Tacoma auto will do 400k, either).

11 year old truck. 195,000 miles, $10,451, not $10,450, $10,451 @sshole!

I honestly think people are living in the 80s. Yeah a Toyota pickup in the 80s probably was more durable and longer lasting in the powertrain department than the average car or even truck. So what? It's 2016.

It seems like there is a compact pickup theme to this list. Also, two Subarus!

I am somewhat surprised to see the Camaro on there, but it is a very good car and will probably have good resale if the market recognizes its goodness.

I think the theme is, reasonably priced, non-luxury vehicles (which explains Subaru, for example). Compact pickups aren't packed with as much profit as 1/2 tons, so they are sold with less profit, and the price to utility ratio is lower at new car transaction, which makes the price to utility ratio as a used car higher. Then again there are two 1/2 ton pickups on here...

Tacoma resale is probably also bolstered by very few year to year changes. That may change as they have to compete with a new entrant.

Then you have luxury vehicles, which depreciate by their nature: the luxury is in owning a brand new status symbol, not owning a 3 year old status symbol. No one would pay $80k for a 1 year old Escalade but they sure will pay $90k for a new one.

And I could make an argument that if the Camaro is on there, a Corvette Stingray should be. But it's too expensive regardless of its relative value in the market. You can get any of the vehicles in this list for $30-$35k, which is about the average new car cost these days. And I can tell you that a Sierra Denali is going to take a much bigger depreciation hit than a plain SLE 5.3L 4WD.

You also aren't seeing these Italian exotics that supposedly don't lose value ever.
