There was some discussion recently about offering a G8 GT type car with the L83 truck 5.3L. I guessed that there isn't much difference in price between the Gen V engines. They all have aluminum blocks, variable valve timing, active fuel management and direct injection.
I was right.

The LT1 is the only true crate engine here. The others are intended to be replacement engines and thus have a core charge. They also may not come with intake manifolds. I will dig a little more but it think this shows that the 5.3L truck engine probably is not much cheaper to build than the L86 or LT1.
