Either they are just trying to improve the truck with an old engine, OR, they are trying to fix an actual problem and turned it into a marketing pitch. Both?
It does highlight the kind of engineering that most aftermarket products can only dream about.
2017 GM HD trucks have ram-air
Re: 2017 GM HD trucks have ram-air
Pretty true. From what I recall, the Duramax and Allison 1000 is still the best "power team" available in this segment.Even though the Dodge and F-250 have more power they are far slower than the Chevy. 0-60 for the Ford 8.0 sec, the Dodge comes in at 8.7 and the Chevy comes in at 7.2 secs to 60 much quicker than the other two. With torque numbers for all three HD trucks over 750ft-lbs performance comes down to the weight of the truck and transmission tuning. The Chevy is the lightest and its transmission is better sorted for multiple conditions. Power means nothing if you can't apply it properly.

I wonder if GM is working on a replacement for the Duramax, perhaps all in house like Ford's 6.7. The current 6.6L Duramax really did have a pretty good run. Some issues here and there but when you consider the power deficit the Cummins had for so long (still is I think) and the ridiculous churn over at Ford/Navistar, the Duramax really does look like the most successful of the past 15 years. When you add the Allison 1000 trans, it's a home run. But what's next?
