Regular price $550 on Amazon, currently $477.18. This is a dual fuel generator (gas and propane). $325 shipped is a very good price. 3850W continuous so it is on the small side but it may serve as a good backup generator. The propane option from the factory is also kind of a distinguishing feature. If my generator broke, I'd be very tempted to pick this up.
For comparison, Harbor Freight offers a 3200W continuous generator for $350. So you get more watts and factory propane for $25 less.

$325 shipped on ebay which is already a pretty decent price. $50 off coupon good through the 20th of this month brings it down to $275 shipped, which is definitely impulse buy territory.
It is 3500w continuous which is technically less than what I have now, but only by 500 watts. I agree it is starting to really stretch the "whole house" concept but I think it would still do major items. Mine doesn't sit at like 90% load and this one surges to 4850W anyway in transients. The dual fuel is also a unique feature.
Of course that also begs the question - having a backup to my old 80s Powermate seems like a good idea except do I really want two generators hanging around? Also I would bet the XP4850EH uses a Nema L14-30. I have the 20, so I'd have to get/make an adapter. For some reason the industry abandoned the 20 amp plug, even though 20A is perfect for generators up to 4800W. Everything just has a 30A. Which is why my 50 foot L14-20 generator cable from Grainger was such a good deal - it was on clearance.
Other features of this unit:
- Electric or recoil start
- Propane dual fuel
- 4 gallon tank (way bigger than mine now)
- Low oil shut down (mine does not have this feature either so the small gas tank works out)
Nice unit really and I don't think you can do any better for $275 in any case.

Duromax XP5500EH, dual fuel. 4,500W continuous on gas, and I think 4,100W continuous on propane. Similar to the output on mine.

I wish this was available when I bought mine originally - this would probably have been the way to go for $359 shipped. It is sold out now.
It'll run for 10 hours on 4 gallons of gas @ 50% load, or 10 hours on a 20lb propane tank @ 50% load. Electric start. 7.5hp (mine is 8hp and 4,000W).
