In lieu of my inability to commit the time and resources to fixing the Caprice (including all manner of engine swaps), and similar inability to commit time and resources to heavily modifying the CTS-V (cam, Magnacharger, etc.), maybe a good middle ground would be to buy HP Tuners.
For $499, it comes with 8 credits, enough to tune 4 individual VIN/vehicles from the start ($25 per credit additional, 2 typically required per VIN/vehicle).
Or for $649, the Professional interface which brings some potentially useful features, listed here:
http://www.hptuners.com/forum/showthrea ... ifferences
Like the ability to integrate external controllers, like the output from a wideband controller, into the data log.
I would entertain the $649 one because I'd probably want to get a WB and datalog with the rest. So that's $649 plus WB kit. Ok, now it's getting expensive.
I should also send my injectors out to be cleaned and flow tested.
In the end, I would fool with the mixture and spark at WOT, and probably try to get rid of some torque management, to make throttle response a lot better. May pick up some power and torque also.
It would be fun and part of the hobby to get into Gen III PCM tuning, plus get a benefit on a car I already own.
Should I buy HP Tuners?

Short answer: yes.

What did you think we would tell you? I would also get the whole thing including wideband. You will need that in your turbo LS B/D body.
